The iTero Element Digital Intraoral Scanner is used to generate topographical images of the teeth and oral tissue. At Newtown Dental Care, we use the data generated for all crown and bridge impressions, as well as for TMJ appliances and orthodontic appliances. It is also used to scan patients for Invisalign treatment.
Using the iTero system is very fast, compared to the traditional method of obtaining impressions - the 3D scans are available immediately for viewing onscreen. As a result of the precision of the images, the need to retake impressions is eliminated allowing for a precise fit of orthodontic appliances. The iTero Element system also eliminates the gooey mess usually associated with impressions.
Digital impressions help us replace many tray-based impressions with a small handheld scanner. The scanner captures detailed images of your teeth and bite, then creates a digital model that can be reviewed chairside. This lets Dr. Magida and the team check the scan before it is sent to a dental laboratory or used for treatment planning.
Accurate scans are helpful for restorative dentistry, Invisalign planning, oral appliances, and other treatments where fit matters. Because the digital model can be viewed right away, the team can confirm margins, bite relationships, spacing, and appliance design details while you are still in the chair.
For patients who need a crown, bridge, Invisalign aligners, or a custom appliance, digital impressions give our Newtown dental team a clear starting point for precise treatment. They also make it easier to explain what we are seeing, since the scan can be shown on screen during your visit.
